    The exhibition Under the sky of cheerful faith – Islam and Europe in the Bosnian experience presents the rich tradition and experience of institutional organization and the autonomous management of the religious activities of Muslims and Muslim institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Islamic Community.

  • CONSTITUTION OF THE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY

    At the level of general awareness, the Constitution is a normative document which is related to the sovereign state authority and which is based on the sovereign state power.

  • JAMAAT AND MAJLIS

    In the organizational structure of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, jamaat and majlis are the basic organizational units and forms of institutional organization of the Islamic Community at a local level.

  • MUFITLUK, MUFTIATE AND MESHIHAT

    The medium level of the organization of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is composed of muftiluks, muftiates and meshihats. A muftiluk is an area which encompasses several majlises which make up a territorial unit.

    The Council of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the highest representative and the main legislative body of the Islamic Community, which adopts the Constitution and other rules which regulate the organization and activities of the organs and institutions of the Islamic Community.

    The Riyasat is the highest executive organ for religious, educational, economic, financial, legal, administrative and other affairs of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF THE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY

    The Constitutional Court of the Islamic Community is the supreme organ for the assessment of constitutionality of acts and activity of institutions and organs of the Islamic Community.

  • COUNCIL OF MUFTIS

    The Council of Muftis is the organ of the Islamic Community for religious affairs and consists of all the muftis in the Islamic Community.

  • MUFTI

    The Mufti is the highest religious authority in the territory of the muftiluk or the meshihat.

  • REISU-L-ULAMA

    Pursuant to Article 61. of the Constitution of the Islamic Community, Raisu-l-ulama is the supreme authority and the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community, as well as the highest religious authority who represents the unity of religion (Din) and the community of believers (Ummat) in the Islamic Community.

    Until 1878, the highest Muslim religious officials in Bosnia were muftis, who enjoyed the rank of “provincial muftis” (kenar muftileri) in the Ottoman learned hierarchy.

  • SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STATUTE FOR AUTONOMOUS ADMINISTRATION

    Institutionalization of the independent Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina began after Austro-Hungarian occupation in 1878. Upon establishing the position of raisu-l-ulama and forming the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in 1882, Bosniak soon expressed opposing attitude toward occupation authorities.
