MEDIA CENTER OF THE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY

A great change in the organization of the media of the Islamic Community happened upon the formation of the Media Center. Pursuant to the decision of the Riyasat of 8 March 2017 Radiotelevision of the Islamic Community BIR changed the name into Media Center – a company for radio, television and publishing, and the same decision also expanded its previous core activity. On 28 October 2017 the Council of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued the Statute of the Media Center, which regulated the way of operation and functioning, and on 17 January 2019 the Riyasat made the Decision on attaching the Islamic newsletter Preporod and agency MINA to the Media Center of the Islamic Community. Riyasat was guided by the fact that Preporod and MINA performed the same or similar activities as the Media Center of the Islamic Community in BiH, and wanted to improve the overall activity of media of the Islamic Community from the aspect of cost-effectiveness, profitability and strengthening of market position. Pursuant to the decision, newsletter Preporod and MINA ceased to operate as organizational units of the Riyasat on 31 January 2019, and upon attaching them to the Media Center of the Islamic Community, which has the status of legal entity, these two media became organizational units of the Media Center.

In the existing organization, Media Center is comprised of four organizational units, i.e. media platforms which produce, broadcast or distribute media contents:

1. Radio BIR,

2. BIR television,

3. Islamic newsletter Preporod, 

4. MINA and web-portal www.preporod.info.   

Each of these organizational units has its editorial board managed by editor-in-chief. Work of editors-in-chief is coordinated by the executive director of the programs.

Web-portal and BIR television are two newly established media platforms in the Media Center. Web-portal www.preporod.info began to operate on 25 November 2019 as an information, multimedia web-portal of the Media Center of the Islamic Community. BIR television began to broadcast programs on 24 April 2020 aiming to be a family channel which nourishes Islamic values and a platform through which the Islamic Community communicates with Muslim and Bosnian and Herzegovinian public.

Media Center of the Islamic Community in BiH is registered and organized as a company. Its bodies are the following: Assembly, Supervisory Board, Management and Program Council. Riyasat of the Islamic Community is the Assembly of the Media Center. The management is composed of director, who is appointed and removed from office by the Supervisory Board upon the approval of the Assembly. Program Council deals with the general editorial policy and program concept of all the media individually. It has five members – experts in the field of media, who are appointed and removed by the Assembly upon the proposal of the Council, Mufti Council and the Riyasat. Program Council is also responsible for defining program policy in line with information-educational strategy of the Islamic Community in BiH.
