KENAN ŠURKOVIĆ

He was born in 1975 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He studied Political Science and Art History at the University of Sarajevo.

As a dedicated journalist Kenan has written for several art magazines. In 2004, he published his first book, 'The idea of Islamic Art' in the Bosnian language. In 2017, together with Elvira Bojadžić, Kenan co-authored the book 'Ottoman Architecture in Sarajevo' in Bosnian, English and Turkish language.

Also, as an artist, Kenan has participated in over 20 group and solo exhibitions. He also curated over 30 shows in Bosnia, Serbia and Turkey. He is the President of two Associations, ELIF (Association of Artists) and MONOLIT (Association for promoting Islamic Arts) and is the co-founder of Islamic Arts Magazine with Elvira Bojadžić. Islamic Arts Magazine is an online magazine devoted to presenting traditional Islamic arts and current art scenes from Islamic countries. The topics range from traditional to contemporary and cover all media. 

In 2016, Kenan was appointed as a co-curator of the Gazi Husrev Beg Museum in Sarajevo (Bosnia- Herzegovina) with Dr Haris Dervišević, and in 2017 as one of the curators of the Gazi Husrev Beg Library Museum. In October 2017, Kenan was one of the organizers of the International Symposium, ' Islamic Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina'. As a part of the International Symposium, Kenan co-curated with Dr Haris Dervišević the exhibition of carpets, rugs, metal works and calligraphic art in Haniqah, in Sarajevo. 

In 2018 he wrote a book about Impressionism which is currently being prepared for printing. From 2019 on, he has been working on two new books: Istanbul Mosques and Islamic Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
