Prof. ISMET BUŠATLIĆ, PhD

Born in Gornji Vakuf in 1948. Completed the Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Sarajevo, and the School of Journalism in Belgrade. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Madrid (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), where he also defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: OBRAS ANDALUSIES CONOCIDAS EN BOSNIA E INFLUYENTES EN SU DESARROLLO RELIGIOSO E INTELECTUAL (Andalusian works known in Bosnia and their influence on the religious and intellectual life of Bosniaks) in 2000.

He worked as the main imam in Trebinje, the editor of the journal Islamska misao, curator of the museum collection in the Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Sarajevo, a teacher, and the vice-dean and dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Sarajevo, where he taught the course The History of Islamic Culture and Civilization. As a visiting professor, he has lectured at universities in Bihać, Mostar, Zenica, Vienna, Tübingen, Osnabrück, Norrköping and Tehran.

He has participated in several academic conferences and seminars in BiH and abroad, and published professional papers on the history of culture and civilization in Bosnian and Spanish. He has prepared a chrestomathy of texts Pregled historije islamske kulture i civilizacije. He authored the books Studije o sljedbenicima knjige and Kraljevski grad pod sultanima – Jajce 1527-1878, and is a co-author of several publications. He was also a member of the editorial boards of several journals in the country and abroad, and has organized several exhibitions in Sarajevo, Zagreb and Split.
