AMRA MADŽAREVIĆ

Born in Sarajevo in 1965. Completed the “Prva gimnazija” in Sarajevo, and then the Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Oriental Studies, and obtained the title of Arabist and Turkologist. She has had professional training in Paris, in the following museums: Louvre, the Museum of Folk Arts and Tradition, the Museum of Oceania, the Museum of Man, and the Museum within the Arab World Institute, as well as in Croatia. 

Since 1989, Amra Madžarević has been employed at the Museum of Sarajevo as the curator of Oriental collection. Since 1997 she has also been managing the Ethnological Collection and the building “Svrzo’s House”. She was granted the title of a museum advisor in 2009. From 2007 to 2015 she was the director of the Museum of Sarajevo. In the period from 2003 to 2006 she chaired the National Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums within UNESCO) for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

She is the author and the coauthor of several museum’s permanent collections and exhibitions. She is also the author of the Stari zanati (Old crafts) catalogue and many texts in catalogues, professional publications, books and journals, as well as TV programs about culture. She has participated in many international conferences about museums, cultural policies and strategies of culture, tourism and culture, digitalization of cultural heritage and other topics.

She is a permanent member of the Cantonal Committee for granting professional museological titles. She has been a member of many professional committees and boards of local and international character. 

In 2014, she was conferred with honor of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Ministry of Culture and Communications of the Republic of France, for her rich contribution to and promotion of culture. She is fluent in English and French.
