ZUKO DŽUMHUR’S HOME IN KONJIC

The birth house of Zulfikar Zuko Džumhur in Konjic, located on the left bank of the Neretva River, has been owned by the Municipality of Konjic since 1984. The house has been renewed, same as the front yard with a fig tree which Zuko often mentioned in his texts.

Today, the birth house of Zuko Džumhur is an extension of the Heritage Museum of Konjic. It houses authentic furniture in the upper part of the house, which is about a hundred years old, and which was made by Konjic woodcarvers and decorated with beautiful traditional motifs. It also exhibits original clothes of Zuko Džumhur, published and unpublished authorial texts and manuscripts, photographs of his family and Zuko's friends, writers and numerous artists whom he met during his life. Numerous Zuko's caricatures and recognitions are also exhibited.

Within the visit to the Heritage Museum in Konjic, a visit to the birth house of Zuko Džumhur can also be organized if the visitors wish.

Zulfikar Zuko Džumhur, a painter, caricaturist and travel writer, was born in Konjic in 1920, from a well-known ulama family. His father, hafiz Abduselam-ef. Džumhur was a senior military imam (main imam) in the Army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Zuko completed primary school in Belgrade, high school in Sarajevo and the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He published over 10,000 caricatures. He wrote screenplays for several short and feature films. He died in 1989. His tomb is in Konjic.
