A TRANSCRIBER OF QURʼAN FROM SARAJEVO IN 1764

According to the Katalog arapskih, turskih, perzijskih i bosanskih rukopisa (Catalogue of Arabic, Turkish, Persian and Bosnian Manuscripts) of Gazi Husrev-beg's Library (volume XI – 6325, R-6938), published in 2003, Amina, a daughter of Mustafa Čelebija, from the neighborhood of Žabljak in Sarajevo, transcribed the entire Qurʼān. As written at the end of this muṣḥaf (copy of Qur'an), Amina finalized the transcription in the month of Rajab in 1178/1764, as she herself wrote.

Zejnil Fajić, the author of this volume of the Catalogue, cites the following Arabic words by transcriber Amina:

Katabahū al-faqīrah al-ḥaqīrah Ᾱmīnah bint Muṣṭafā Ǧalabī madīnat Sarāy...

[“Transcribed by poor and humble Amina, a daughter of Mustafa Čelebija from Sarajevo...”]

Fajić adds that the text of this handwritten al-Muṣḥaf aš-Šarīf from the pen of Amina, Mustafa's daughter, is vocalized; “names of encounters, symbols from Tajweed and dots between ayahs were written in red ink. There are catchwords. The text is bordered with a thin red line. The paper is dark white, firm, slightly affected by humidity. The binding is made of leather, with imprinted ornaments in the middle of the cover, damaged.”
